Oscar Piastri Signed 2024 McLaren F1 Team Photo – Azerbaijan GP
The young Australian is in just his second season in Formula 1, but watching him race you wouldn’t know it! His incredibly calculated drive took him to his second win of the year at the 2024 Azerbaijan GP.
The race around the Baku street circuit was a great weekend for McLaren’s man. Qualifying went excellently, as he qualified on the front row. Frustratingly, it was his main Championship rival, Charles Leclerc, who took pole. When the lights went out it was clear that the battle for the win was locked firmly in the hands of these two drivers. Leclerc held a significant pace advantage coming into the pitstops – but onto the hard compound the pace swung in favour of Piastri.Â
An incredible lunge into T1 on lap 20 to take the lead from his Ferrari rival. The Monegasque remained close by for the remainder of the race, unable to pass Piastri – no matter what move he tried. A late surge in pace for McLaren and a VSC halted any chance of Oscar losing this hard earned win.Â
