KUON S/S Open Collar Shirt Dorozome
Challenging the existing notion on vintage clothing, KUON revitalizes traditional Japanese boro and re-purposes these rich materials and fabrics for the modern day.
Here we have the Dorozome Open Collar Shirt in a Mud Brown colour-way. Dorozome runs through the veins and history of the island of Amami-Oshima, a collection of islands north of Okinawa. As with most Japanese dying techniques, this natural dye (that comes from Sharimbai – or wood chips from the Japanese Hawthone tree) was used to colour natural silk that was then used for the production of clothing and in particular Kimonos.Â
Dorozome dyeing is labour intensive and requires the process to be repeated three times. The fabric is dip dyed 20 times with the Sharimbai (wood chips) by hand, and then soaked in mud.Â
Cut from 100% crepe rayon in Japan, the Dorozome Open Collar Shirt shirt has a regular fit that works perfectly for a modern, casual look. The shirt also features a button front and a large single chest pocket while the open collar harks back to casual leisure shirts from the 50’s.
Please note as this is naturally dyed there may be some colour loss and colour transfer.
