George Russell X Max Verstappen 2024 Qualifying Print – Canadian GP
Mercedes’ George Russell & Red Bull’s Max Verstappen shared the front-row and qualifying time at the Canadian GP.
In Q1 it was Max who topped the times, and then in Q2 George had the bragging rights. Whilst neither of these sessions make a difference to the starting order, they were foretelling what was to come. George Russell was the first to set a stunning lap at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, a 1:12.000 that sent him straight to the top of the times.
Verstappen has been incredibly strong this season and the Dutchman still had one more run t5o go. As he finished his lap, all eyes were on him and the timing screen. He crossed the line, and the F1 world was left with mouths agape. Verstappen had matched Russell to the millisecond, setting a 1:12.000.
The two had set identical times. This sensational moment in Formula 1 history has only happened once before, at the 1997 European GP in Jerez. Michael Schumacher, Jaques Villeneuve & Heinz-Harald Frentzen all set identical times then too.
