Buzz Rickson’s Type G-1 Spec 55J-14 A.Pritzker Brown
One of the most iconic flight jackets of all time has been faithfully reproduced in Japan by one of Japan’s iconic repro brands. Spec 55J-14, adopted by the US Navy Bureau of Aeronautics in the late 1940’s, was the first jacket to be named the G-1.
This iconic design initially began as the M-422 and this was standardised, going through a couple of changes in its time. The design has truly lasted the test of time with its good looks and extremely functional design. The G-1 is the longest lasting leather flight jacket and a source of pride for the US Navy.
The Buzz Rickson’s Type G-1 Spec 55J-14 is a reproduction of the Type G-1 first made by A. Pritzker & Sons. Pritzker & Sons Inc, located in Boston, MA and were most famous for their production of the iconic G-1 but were also a prolific maker of civilian styles prior to WWII.
The G-1 is cut in Japan from a vegetable and chrome tanned, pigment finished goatskin. The 1/2 inch shearling collar features mouton and is complimented by the fine grade 100% wool knits on both cuffs and waistband. The zip front features a MIl Spec brass black oxidised zip while the snap buttons used meet U.S. Government Department of Defence regulations. The G-1 Spec 55J-14 is complete with mil spec urea buttons while a trim short silhouette completes the look on this cracking piece.
