Buzz Rickson’s MA-1 Slender OG Spec
Another iconic jacket gets the treatment from repro specialists Buzz Rickson’s. Developed in the 1950’s, the MA-1 become the flight jacket of the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy.
Both the MA-1 and it’s predecessor, the B-15 were originally developed and needed at the time due to the emergence of ‘Jet Age’, where pilots required high performance gear with safety & comfort a top priority. The MA-1 jacket is arguably the first American Military jacket that was introduced to the civilian fashion consciousness and has since become an icon of classic style.Â
The Buzz Rickson’s MA-1 Model is a reproduction of those that were made outside of government contract and usually had a slimmer fit. This MA1 is cut in Japan from Government use 2/2 heavy nylon twill replicating the original 66 nylon. The small wool collar is complimented by the fine grade wool knits on both cuffs and the waistband while the inter lining is a blend of undyed wool and cotton pile. The two outer slash pockets are lined in a blend of brushed double faced wool and rayon for added comfort.Â
The zip front uses a branded Crown Aluminum Spring Automatic Lock while all snap buttons used are U.S. Government Department of Defence specs. Two inner pockets have been lined with heavy duty cotton twill to complete the look.
