A.G. Spalding & Bros Double ‘V’ Training Shirt Black
A.G. Spalding have a long and illustrious history in the sweatshirt industry, paving the way for American athletic wear. Now produced in Japan, they develop garments that fit the modern day taking into account all design and manufacturing details from their archive collection.
The Training Sweatshirt from A.G. Spalding is inspired by a 1930’s sweatshirt from Spalding, usually cut from a blend of wool and cotton and used for athletic wear.Â
Cut in Japan from a luxurious 100% loopwheel cotton, the Training Shirt is available in two colour-ways and features double ‘V’ construction on the front and rear of the collar (introduced for sweat prevention), a detail commonly found up until the late 1930’s. The sleeve construction is truly unique and features longer ribbed cuffs complete with V shape detail. The Training shirt is complete with original ‘Made in Japan’ A.G. Spalding sportswear label.Â
*Â The fabric has been woven on vintage hanging knitting machines in Wakayama that weave at a sluggish pace providing a small amount of fabric a day. These were standard sweatshirt production machines until the 1960’s when production methods moved elsewhere. There are about 400 of these machines remaining in Japan (with only 200 in production) and they produce roughly a metre of fabric an hour – they require skilled craftsman to operate these machines in order to produce vintage like fabrics.Â
