One Ear Brand Hikuri Gingerbread Bandana
Started by Osaka based Bandana connoisseur, Jonathan Lukacek, the One Ear Brand aims to be much more than just a bandana brand. Using custom made fabrics, One Ear Bandanas are made entirely in Japan, printed one at a time meaning that each is slightly different from the last.
Inspired by the big “Turkey Red” bandanas of the 1800’s, these bandanas are designed for more than just accenting an outfit; they make great Eco-Bags, Face Masks, Scarves, Furoshiki (Traditional Japanese Wrapping Cloths), Head Wraps and much more. With the Bandana as her canvas each piece is drawn by one artist, Japanese- American- Yurika Cherise Shikai.
The Hikuri Bandana is a piece that One Ear Brand have wanted to do since the brands inception. Their love for cacti comes from childhood trips to the Southwest, visiting the Mesa and saguaro filled deserts. With the curiosity of the deserts of the Southwest, came an interest in the Peyote/ Hikuri cactus, a psychedelic plant medicine that has been used to heal the body, mind and spirit in Mexican culture for centuries. The colour has been inspired by “Kakishibu” a Japanese persimmon tannin dye, which gives a rusty orange hue.
