Buzz Rickson’s Type A-2 Rough Wear 23380 No Stencil Leather Jacket Seal Brown
The Buzz Rickson’s Type A-2 Rough wear 23380 is a reproduction of the Type A-2 Rough Wear Clothing Co 23380, the third contract (from 1942) out of the five the company produced. Rough Wear Clothing Co was located in Middleton, Pennsylvania and was one of the most prolific wartime contractors that produced thousands of jackets.
The Type A-2 flying jacket was adopted as standard issue by the U.S. Army Air Corps as the successor to the Type A-1 flying jacket in 1931. Interestingly, the U.S. Army Air Crops mandated that all flight issue jackets were labelled with “Property Air Force” halfway through 1942, so two labels are sewn on top of each other, creating the two-piece label, that can be seen on this reproduction.
The Roughwear Type A-2 23380 is cut in Japan from the finest vegetable tanned, hand aniline-dyed Italian Bronco hide. A-2’s are typically imposing jackets and none more so than the Rough Wear contracts that feature a large collar with collar stand that are complimented by the fine grade 100% wool knits on both cuffs and waistband. The zip front utilises a branded Talon Mil Spec Nickel Finished Zip while the snap buttons used are Oxidised Brass Black ball studs and the neck hook is solid brass. A trim, short silhouette completes the look on this Roughwear 23380.
